                                                    SUMMER 2018 PELL GRANT INFORMATION

The Department of Education has announced that students eligible for Federal Pell Grant may be able to receive a 3rd disbursement of Pell Grant during the same academic year. As a result, USA will implement Year Round Pell Grant starting Summer 2018.

Year Round Pell Grant will allow students to receive up to 150% of their Pell Grant funds in one academic year if eligible. One full time semester of Pell Grant equals 50%. Any additional Pell Grant disbursement will be included in the student's 600% maximum Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU), which is equivalent to 12 full time semesters. Students can check their Pell Grant LEU on the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

In order to be eligible for the 3rd disbursement, students must be eligible for Pell Grant as determined by the Department of Education and must be enrolled at least half time (6 hours) for the Summer semester.

Summer Pell Grant eligibility will be reviewed within 3-5 business days upon completing a Summer Aid Application or when the student has registered for Summer semester. Students will receive an email at their JagMail email address when a determination on their Summer financial aid (including Summer Pell Grant) has been made.

UPDATE: IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL UNAVAILABLE FOR 2017 - 2018 FAFSA

The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) on fafsa.gov and StudentLoans.gov is currently unavailable. The Department of Education and the IRS are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, but at this time DRT is expected to be down for several weeks. The outage impacts the 2017-2018 FAFSA.

Students and parents who are in the process of completing a FAFSA should manually enter their 2015 tax information. Students who have successfully completed a FAFSA and are selected for verification can still satisfy their requirements by requesting a copy of their 2015 IRS Tax Return Transcript (or parents IRS Tax Return Transcript, if applicable) at www.irs.gov under Tools.
